Embrace Winter with Endurance Cycling
This January, Mary Free Bed YMCA brings back its popular winter cycling series, Endurance Cycling. With temperatures dropping, this series offers indoor cycling enthusiasts a chance to build fitness with a fun twist every Sunday morning from 10:15 to 11:45 AM for the next 13 weeks. These sessions are longer than the usual classes at the gym, providing a unique 90-minute challenge for cyclists looking to step up their game.
Music to Motivate Your Ride
Adding a musical flair to your ride, each session features an electrifying soundtrack with tunes from 'E' named artists. You'll be pedaling along to the beats of Eminem, Empire of the Sun, Eric Clapton, Ella Mai, and many more. The music, paired with varied intensity levels—predominantly zones 2-3 with bursts up to zone 4-6—keeps things engaging and challenging for participants of all levels.
The Science of Endurance Cycling
Why focus on endurance cycling? It's all about building a strong aerobic foundation. According to fitness experts, zone 2 aerobic rides are essential for enhancing aerobic capacity, which is crucial for cyclists. These workouts lay the groundwork for improved fat metabolism, muscle capillary density, and mitochondrial growth, making your body more efficient at using oxygen during exercise. In simpler terms, they help you cycle longer and stronger.
Benefits of Joining the Series
Participating in the Endurance Cycling series provides more than just physical benefits. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow cyclists, share the journey, and stay motivated during the winter months. These extended sessions enhance not only your endurance but also your cycling technique, setting a solid performance foundation for the year.
